Besides doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other hospital staff there are other people out there who are also fighting against this pandemic. Secondly, these people are also not recognized and appreciated in normal days as they should be appreciated as presently on the front line with doctors they are also doing their level best to win this battle in Pakistan. Following are the people who are the hidden heroes:-
Engineers are “hidden heroes” in COVID-19 battle by Marry Wells, Ph.D. presently she is the Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Science at the University of Guelph and Professor Wells is also an Adjunct Professor in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Department at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Presently Pakistan has 3,844 ventilators in which many may be faulty and out of order. As per the news article team of Pakistani engineers providing free services to repair the ventilators across the country.
Muhammad Afzal is a 24-year old engineer and he is the graduate of the UET Faisalabad. He created the splitter valves using the 3D printer with his team members through which a single ventilator will be able to supply oxygen to multiple patients. This solution solved the doctor’s major problem as in Italy doctors were facing the same problem due to the increasing numbers of patients. Additionally, they took the most painful decision when there was one ventilator and two patients were taking the last breath and they need a ventilator. Furthermore, in the USA one of the healthcare providers also manufactured the same device with 3D Printer and that device allows a single ventilator to support four patients at a time.
Private engineering Lahore based firm “Alpha Rubber and Plastic Works has developed a same splitter which connects to the single ventilator hoses and supplies oxygen to two or four patient at once.
In hospitals, these people are an easy target of this virus but still, they are offering their duties.
3. Traffic Police Wardens
These people are protecting the given jurisdiction to ensure the safety of the public while they are in the field and they are an easy target of this virus.
4. Security Guards
These individuals are responsible to keep community people to stay at their premises/residence. At hospitals besides doctors, paramedic staff, and cleaners these people are also direct in war with COVID-19.
5. Soldiers and Officers
Recently Pakistan army officers major Muhammad Asghar died due to coronavirus. He was detailed at the Afghanistan border (Torkham border) to screen the crossing of people and logistics.
Besides, the army also looking after each and every issue of Pakistan and they are a step ahead in every matter of this country. However, soldiers who are performing their duties on check posts can’t be ignored as they are also dealing with the public to ensure the safety of a specific community and public. Furthermore, they assist the civil administration in this pandemic and as per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) troops are busy in relief efforts and distribution of basic food items. In addition to that, relief packages were distributed in various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, KPK, Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh.
